Boat Ride in Little Venice/ London

If someone were to come to you and just say that they will take you for a boat ride in Little Venice, in London you would probably smile in disbelief.

However it is true! There is a boat trip in Little Venice. Real, retro, a reminder of a different era.

Jason’s Trip is the original Regent’s Canal tour and has been operating since 1951. It offers an authentic 45 minute boat ride on Regent’s Canal, starting from Little Venice and ending up in Camden Lock.

The centenarian Jason (this authentic canal boat that counts 108 years of life) was originally used as a cargo-vessel on the canals before being fitted with a diesel engine and converted to passenger-carrying duties.

Regent’s Canal is one of London’s best-kept secrets that very few will share with you. A peaceful haven often hidden by the surrounding buildings it is a vital part of some of the most beautiful neighbourhoods of the city.
You will have the chance to explore the colourful collection of narrowboats at Little Venice basin in Maida Vale before running through Regent’s Park and London Zoo and continuing on to the colourful and alternative neighbourhood of Camden.
As the Canal continues eastwards towards the East End of the capital it finally flows into the Thames River at Limehouse Basin!

And the journey begins…

The boat ride is in high demand and the number of seats limited so it is highly recommended that you book your tickets over the internet or alternatively to arrive at the designated point of departure 30 mins before.

There is also a trained tour guide who will narrate stories from Regent’s canal rich history dating from 1800 all the way to the present. (If you prefer the trip with no commentary, then start in Camden as there is no narration between there and Little Venice.)

During the voyage on the Jason, you will see the beautiful architecture that characterizes London’s north west neighborhoods (Victorian townhouses), flashes of the capital’s industrial heritage, and the interesting hippy houseboat community in Little Venice (boats that have been transformed into houses with  thousands of Londoners living in them!

More and more people choose to live in narrowboats. The increase in rents and the bohemian character of living on a boat, has attracted numerous artists and naturists of all ages groups.

You simply have an address while others can say that they live at “Matilda”.

Regent’s Canal offers numerous possibilities to enjoy nature thanks to its pathways (that are literally next to the water); walking, running, cycling and strolling in nature, in an environment that seems far removed from the noisy and crowded metropolis.
