You don\u2019t want to disturb anything. Probably it\u2019s this awe-inspiring feeling combined with an aura of mysticism that permeates the space.<\/p>\n<p>It is a \u201cbee colony\u201d of new artists, the Absorb \u0391rts. A communal artistic house where everyone can create smoothly in a seamless and organic way.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>-\u201cHere are housed all my art works\u201d.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I was really inspired by this line: \u201cHere are housed all my art works.\u201d Indeed, a roof over the heads of the art works, exactly as babies have their duvets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"> He hugged me whispering \u201cThank you so much for coming\u201d in my ear, enunciating every syllable to make sure that the words were not lost in the air.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">My gaze rested on a piece of art and I jumped backwards as if an electric current had passed through me.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2255\" style=\"width: 656px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2255\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2255 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wearewhatwedo.gr.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/bekiaris-1-646x800.jpg\" alt=\"giannis-bekiaris-portrait-1\" width=\"646\" height=\"800\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2255\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From that moment I just say, &#8220;Gianni&#8217;s purple&#8221;&#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p>-\u201cThis is B!\u201d I said in a very enthusiastic way.<br \/>\nHe paused, and he replied with one word.<br \/>\n-\u201cYes.&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd, yes, indeed it was B, with a wonderful purple dress. A stunning purple. Gianni\u2019s purple.<br \/>\nI realised that there was a story behind it.<\/p>\n<p>-&#8220;I will tell you afterwards&#8221;, he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><em>I realised when I was rather young that when people say: \u00abI will explain it to you later\u00bb, it\u2019s better if you don\u2019t ask them again to tell you what they had in mind.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Because most of the time, they simply don\u2019t want to share, they just say that to \u00abwin\u00bb some time and prevaricate. Unless they really want to share it with you at a specific time, under specific conditions, in their own way.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>If they want to share, they will share.<\/strong><br \/>\nAnd he did.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We were seeing all his art works one by one, some of his art work was finished, some in progress.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2401\" style=\"width: 742px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2401\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2401 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wearewhatwedo.gr.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/bekiaris-2-732x620-1.jpg\" alt=\"giannis-bekiaris-two-women\" width=\"732\" height=\"620\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wearewhatwedo.gr.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/bekiaris-2-732x620-1.jpg 732w, https:\/\/www.wearewhatwedo.gr.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/bekiaris-2-732x620-1-600x508.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 732px) 100vw, 732px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2401\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Two bodies, two faces, infinite souls.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I started gazing at his portraits. The figures of Giannis, his portraits, his love towards the female sex, towards our duality and complexity. You have the feeling that all his portraits hide a secret. <strong>A secret that they want to share with you. And everybody \u201chears\u201d his own secret. As many secrets as all the hidden parts of the female gender.<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>People continued coming and going and I asked him at some point:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">-\u201cWhen did you start painting?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Somebody interrupted us, but he answered while trying to keep his glasses in place.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">-\u201cI started painting when you started painting.\u201d<br \/>\nI looked at him, really puzzled. And he continued:<br \/>\n-\u201cEverybody paints from the moment he holds a colored marker or a pen in his hands.<strong> We stop painting when we start censoring ourselves, when somebody points out to us a lack of talent, or when we persuade ourselves that we don\u2019t paint properly<\/strong>. This is one of the mistakes of our educational system, but this is another discussion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>There is something ethereal about Giannis. But at the same time he is solid, compact and precise. As if you had placed parquet flooring on a cloud. He flies, but he knows in which direction, with what speed, and he always looks behind him.<\/strong> He has a schedule. In the mornings his art takes a therapeutic shape and when he finishes with his wonderful \u201ckids&#8221;, he isolates himself in his sanctuary. He paints but lately he also creates other art objects; he chisels the wood, he gives shape to it and he transforms it to useful objects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He also moved to London, from Athens. One of many who did the same. But he holds Greece in himself, and this is something I discovered from his lights and his colours. They have something blinding. They have the light of the South.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2258\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2258\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2258 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wearewhatwedo.gr.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/bekiaris-3-800x800.jpg\" alt=\"giannis-bekiaris-brushes-colours\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2258\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;&#8230;And I thought that they were getting mixed the same way the lives of people get wet and tousled.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I asked him about the colours as he was mixing a paintbrush with water. And I thought that they were getting mixed the same way the lives of people get wet and tousled.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong> -\u201cI think about the colours before I start painting, I see them inside me, but I also change my mind as a work progresses.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This phrase \u201cI see them inside me\u201d rang a bell and reminded me of what the composer Evanthia Rempoutsika once told me, that she \u201chears the music inside her.\u201d<br \/>\nThe art is \u201cinside us.&#8221; \u201cInside us\u201d all the work is done. Inside the artists the art is being gestated. And when they finally create, it is simply the moment of birth, way after all the painful and grinding gestation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">At some point I asked him about the artists of the 21st century:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">-\u201cWhat\u2019s your opinion about all these artists of the modern art, that they might just throw a paint on a canvas, or just presenting a white canvas?&#8221; (we saw that at Tate)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">-\u201cEverybody just creates what he can, some people probably they can\u2019t\u201d, he said while he was pushing back his eyeglasses, to rivet them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">-This amazing teacher of mine in New York, Roxana Stuart used to \u00a0say: \u201cTo consider something as a form of art, a simple, unrefined way is to judge if what you hear\/see, etc. can be done from everybody.<em> If it can\u2019t, if it includes a level of rarity and difficulty, probably it is on the right path to be considered art.<\/em> Do you agree?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">-There is a point here, he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_2261\" style=\"width: 556px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2261\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2261 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wearewhatwedo.gr.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/bekiaris-4-546x800.jpg\" alt=\"giannis-bekiaris-naked-portrait\" width=\"546\" height=\"800\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2261\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One or the work arts of Giannis Bekiaris can be found in Mykons, at Skoufa Gallery Mykonos until the end of October 2016<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">And then a beautiful discussion started in between some snacks, some drinks, and the constant coming and going of people. Until we were interrupted by his goddaughter saying &#8220;I want to pee&#8221;.<br \/>\n&#8220;This is art,&#8221; I told him. &#8220;This little girl.&#8221;<br \/>\nHe nodded, trying to return his eyeglasses onto his nose. And at that very moment I realized that he tries to prop up his eyeglasses as often as he smiles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">And as I was leaving, I was sure that we will see much more from Giannis Bekiaris. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">The future is being painted at this very moment and it is so promising.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The colourful Alphabet of Giannis Bekiaris<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I gave Giannis these 24 verbs and with his answers he summarises, his alphabet, his personal code; his great wonderful colourful world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">A.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">I cherish the morning w<strong>a<\/strong>ke up, with the first crack of dawn<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">B.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I suffer when I have something on my mind but I can&#8217;t do it at that precise moment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">C.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s1\">I grow older the way I lived<\/span><span class=\"s3\">\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">said on<strong>c<\/strong>e my wife \u00a0and I turned it into my life motto. Because this is the only way for someone to appreciate the present without worrying about the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">D.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I tame my <strong>d<\/strong>yslexia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">E.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I trust p<strong>e<\/strong>ople.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">F.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I paint with yearning, with patience and spontaneity trying to get out of the convenient shell o<strong>f<\/strong> my prudence, as Kazantzakis once said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">G.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I find peace in Vouta and in Apeirantho.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>H.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I cure the old objects that I come across. I bring t<strong>h<\/strong>em back to life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u0399.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>\u0399<\/strong> please my desires.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">J.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I am filled with pride at the achievements of people important to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">K.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I feel sorry for people who punish themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">L.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u0399 rare<strong>l<\/strong>y censure somebody.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>M.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I legalise<strong> m<\/strong>y right \u03c4\u03bf rest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">N.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I smell my materials and <strong>n<\/strong>ew techniques.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">O.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u0399 banish n<strong>o<\/strong>body and nothing.
